Early Career Film & TV Content Creators

Supporting early-career creatives is built into our DNA. We strive to be the world's most accessible broadcaster for early career practitioners.

We understand how challenging it can feel to get started in the industry which is why we've built our dedicated Head Start program - which is available to both music and film/TV industry practitioners.

Participating in Head Start is free, and guarantees your content is seen by our executives - those who actually make and sign-off on our licensing decisions.

Who Is This For?

The information on this page is for early career film/TV practitioners. If you are an independent/unsigned music artist, or have a music video, please visit the Music Head Start program page.

If you're an established filmmaker, content creator, production company or distributor, please refer to our main Film & TV Commissioning and Acquisitions page.

What To Expect

When you reach out to us via Head Start, you'll get first-hand pitching experience. You'll go through an almost identical process as established industry professionals do, and are subject to the same licensing, commissioning, and acquisitions processes. The difference is, we expressly look for - and go out of our way - to give opportunities to those new to the industry.

Licensing Options

We understand there might be many reasons why you may want to license your content to a broadcaster, or pitch a project in development to us:

Exposure, Screen Credits & Reach

For some, you might want your first industry-recognized broadcast screen credit, exposure as new and upcoming talent, and a pathway to get your work seen by huge worldwide audiences, that only broadcasters are usually able to give a project.

Earning Licensing Fees

For others, you might be looking to receive a license fee for your first project and/or a combination of the above.

Whatever your reasons Head Start is for you!

What Content Are We Looking For?

In the Film/TV space, EDM Broadcasting is open to receiving pitches for most projects - in all genres - across short form, features, TV series, Web series, experimental, interactive, VR, 360-degree video and more.

Remember, we also broadcast in other areas, including Music, Radio and Podcasts. If you are an independent/unsigned music artists, we also have a Music Head Start program for you.

Preference is given to projects able to be licensed in all territories, across all platforms. Licenses may either be exclusive, or non-exclusive on a case-by-case basis.

How Do I Pitch My Film/TV Project To A Broadcaster?

Every broadcaster is different. At EDM Broadcasting, use the following process to pitch to us:

For Completed Projects

Contact us via our online form, and briefly tell us about your project. Just as you would when submitting to a film festival, we ask that you submit a link to an online screener for us to view your work. Once we've reviewed your project, we'll be in touch.

For Commissioned Content/Projects In Development

We accept pitches for as-of-yet uncompleted projects (ie: projects in development - for commissioning) - but you MUST follow the following guidelines when contacting us:

Contact us via our online form and tell us ONLY:

Completion Assistance

EDM Broadcasting may offer completion assistance to projects under certain circumstances, generally at post-production stage.

What Do I Need?

At the early career level, we understand that you may not have the same level of experience as an established practitioner or production company. As a general rule, you will need to be in a position where you are able to complete the project yourself. Having an experienced producer attached to your project may help you, but is not mandatory, provided you have the skills required to complete your project.

You'll need to make sure that you have adequate insurance and all the industry standard agreements in place - including but not limited to cast, crew, location, and music rights agreements. We recommend seeking the advice of an entertainment lawyer.

Content Created Through An Educational Setting

If your project has been, or will be created via an educational setting, such as through university/tertiary training, film school, acting school or primary/secondary school, we may be able to work with you in some circumstances, but special conditions, approaches and requirements may apply. Please have your teacher, course coordinator, or other suitably authorized staff member from your educational institution contact us.

Content of this nature will usually be on an acquisition basis on completion, and provided that various legal requirements have been adhered to.

Our Decision Making Process

We will individually review every pitch and project submitted to us under Head Start. As with any broadcaster, the number of projects we can accept will always be limited to a number of factors.
